Introduction to My Dream Life
All About Me
Hello! My name is Bailey DeFilippo. I am a senior political science major. I chose to be a political science major because I wanted to go into federal law enforcement. I have recently changed my academic course and I have decided to go to graduate school next year for social work. I am hoping to be accepted into the Garland School of Social Work at Baylor University. After completing graduate school I would like to go into clinical social work and work with underprivileged children.
Some things that I enjoy are: listening to both country and christian music, watching Friends on Netflix, and spending time with my fiancé and my family. I also enjoy watching my younger brother play basketball and baseball. He has just signed to play baseball at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. We are all very proud of Chase!
I also enjoy traveling with my family. About a year ago, my parent bought an RV. Since then, we have taken quite a few trips together! We have traveled to many lakes and swimming places so that we could spend time outside and in the water! This summer was perfect. This winter, our only trip was over New Years. Our whole family, my parents, my fiancé and me, and my brother and his girlfriend, all loaded up and went to Texas to spend the weekend ringing in the new year together. Family is very important to me and I have been very blessed with all of the amazing people around me.
My life right now is very busy. I am trying to finish up my undergraduate coursework, apply for graduate school, and plan a wedding! I am marrying my best friend in June. My fiancé's name is Logan Martin and he wants to be a youth pastor in a church. Together, Logan and I spend our time watching Marvel movies, going to church, cheering on our favorite NBA team, the OKC Thunder, and just spending time together. Although this time of my life is hectic and crazy, I would not change a thing! I am having so much fun preparing for both graduate school and married life.
Hi Bailey! You sound like a very driven and go-getter type of person and I think that's awesome! When I was young my family would always go on RV trips together. It was a great time to spend time with family. I loved going on RV trips to lakes around Texas because that meant that I got to go kayaking with my whole family! Good luck this semester and I hope you get into Baylor for grad school!
ReplyDeleteSocial work is such a great field, Bailey! I have really gained an appreciation for that over the years I have been at OU because of the social work students I have met, and the professors I've gotten to know online (like David Axlyn McLeod who shares so much good stuff at Twitter). If you want to use this class to learn about some of the social work and justice struggle in India, that would be great! One of the important sources I have used for this class are books by a woman known as Sister Nivedia, but by birth her name was Margaret Elizabeth Noble, and she was a Scots-Irish social worker; she moved to Calcutta in 1898 and devoted her life to serving the people of India. You will see her name in the bibliography for the class; she was a great author as well as all her other gifts and skills. More here: Wikipedia: Sister Nivedita
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations on your upcoming wedding! This sounds like a beautiful time of your life, and I hope you will have a wonderful semester!
Hi Bailey! Congrats on your upcoming wedding and finishing up your undergraduate! That is really cool how you decided to go into a graduate program for social work. I don't know a lot about social work, but I know it is a very humbling profession and takes someone with a lot of compassion to do that line of work. I have always wanted to travel around the country in an RV with my family, so it is really cool that you get to take RV trips with your family. Do you go to lakes in a specific area, or do you travel around? Nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteHi Bailey. My mom currently works with underprivileged families, and she absolutely loves her work, so I think you've made a pretty good choice there. As far as the RV goes, my family has been doing it since I was little, and there is nothing like it. You get to see some pretty great sights going on trips like that, and connect with the people you're with. And congrats on the wedding!
ReplyDeleteHey , Bailey reading your post you seem like a very cheerful individual that has a lot of spunk. I see you and your family like to travel a lot more since you guys have brought a Rv, I always wanted to ride and travel on an RV just to see what it feels like living in a moving vehicle. And the more I read on your post, I seen you have a lot of things to get done before you graduate. It seems like the last stretch is always the most stressful, but think in the end once it is done you will be stress free. And congrats on the marriage I cant wait until My day comes.
ReplyDeleteHi Bailey! I too love re-watching Friends! I went through a very depressed period shortly after major surgery, and the show helped to cheer me up. It seems that all the awesomely stressful things in life - graduation, marriage, etc - happen at once, doesn't it? I'm in the same boat, working full time, attending class full time, carrying my first child, and looking into my plans after graduation. I can relate to the stress you must be feeling, but it's all so worth it! You and your fiance look so happy together! I'm excited for you, and wish you all the happiness in the world.
ReplyDeleteHey Bailey! You sound like you have a lot going on this year, and its only February! I want to congratulate you on a few things. First, congrats for this being your senior year and graduating this spring! Second, congrats on narrowing down what you wish to pursue in life in social work, i know it can very difficult to change career paths and can also be stressful. Third, I want to congratulate you on your upcoming marriage. That is so exciting and is a life changing event. I hope you and your fiancé have the time of your lives and love spending forever with each other.
ReplyDeleteHey Bailey! Congrats on getting engaged! I love to see how driven you are and I wish you the best with getting into Baylor. I too love the Thunder and I also love playing sports like your brother. I think it is really cool that your family takes road trips all the time. I love road trips, because they bring on the best conversations.
ReplyDeleteHey Bailey!
ReplyDeleteI am very close to my family too! I love that you and your family travel together often, in an RV! My brother and I have been begging my parents to get one, but being a small family of 4 my parents say a car is more than good. Congratulations on your engagement and I hope you get accepted into the grad school at Baylor! I admire your passion to help others and serve the community!
Hi Bailey, it is nice to meet you! It is refreshing to hear the goals you have in your life and your dream to work as a social worker. We need more people like you! I also enjoy watching Friends, do you have a particular season that you love? That is so cool that your family has a RV! I have always been intrigued by RVs because they are literally a house on wheels. Congrats on getting engaged and I wish you a lifetime of happiness!
ReplyDeleteHello Bailey!
ReplyDeleteWow, sounds like you've got a busy semester ahead of you! My family also recently got a camper and we've been going on camping trips quite a bit around the state, which is really fun. I hope your semester isn't too rough, and that your big day in June goes off without a hitch! Good luck to you and your family, and I hope you get into your grad program with ease!
Hey Bailey!
ReplyDeleteFirst off, I really like the design and layout of your blog. Also, I thought the personal photos you added into your introduction were a nice touch! Congratulations on being a senior and best of luck getting accepted into graduate school! I hope you are having a good semester so far and I can’t wait to see what you post next to your blog!
Hello Bailey,
ReplyDeletePolitical science is an incredible major that allows for you to make a difference in people's lives, which it appears that's what you want to do. One of my friends is a social worker here in Norman. Although she says it can be hard sometimes, she still loves it because she loves helping others. Good luck keeping it together in your hectic life!
Hi Bailey! I love your story! I think it's so awesome that you are marrying your best friend!! As I was reading this I was thinking about how cool it would be to marry someone who you have been best friends with since forever! I also love that you a traveler and take trips with your parents! I am excited to read more of you and your stories in the future! Thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Bailey! Best of luck to you as you strive towards Baylor's grad school for social work! That is so cool that your family bought an RV and you guys are getting to travel together, how great! Also, congratulations on your engagement and that is so exciting you are getting married in June, that is right around the corner. Have a great semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Bailey. Congratulations on the upcoming graduation and wedding. A few of my friends have had wedding right after they finish college. They are so happy, and I wish that for you as well. Social work is a great field to get into and will allow you to help people. I hope your final semester goes well and you get into graduate school.
ReplyDeleteHi Bailey! I always have so much admiration for people who have a heart for children and want to devote their lives to them! So special. Congratulations on your engagement as well!! I love to travel also..so I totally hear you on that. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteJessie
Bailey, congrats on getting engaged! That's so exciting! It must be crazy trying to finish undergrad and plan a wedding, but I'm sure it's worth it. That's cool that you decided to do grad school and help underprivileged children, you're gonna have a huge impact on their lives. Congrats on the wedding and graduating!
ReplyDeleteHi Bailey! Congratulations on your engagement - you guys look really cute in the photos you posted. I am a gigantic friends fanboy; I think I've seen the whole show at least 5 times now? I flipped out when I saw it got added to netflix. I think vacationing around in an RV sounds super fun, but I haven't ever tried that. I'm more of an ocean guy, so if I ever did rent an RV I would probably just drive down the coast. I'm glad you're getting the crazy busy part of college in - I think that's a requirement!
ReplyDeleteHey Bailey, it is nice that you already have a chosen career you would like to go in. I have a friend that is a social worker and she thinks it is the most rewarding profession. Even though it can be hard working with underprivileged children they are sweet and just need someone to show that they matter and are cared for. Good luck getting into graduate school and planning your wedding, you definitely have a fun semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Bailey, it was fun reading about your life. Every person I know hat has majored in Poli-Sci has been very interesting and very opinionated. Congrats on your engagement. I also enjoy the thunder. They can be frustrating to watch some nights.
ReplyDeleteHello Bailey! I really liked reading about your life and learning more about you! I honestly find political science really boring, but power to the people who find it interesting and enjoyable! I haven't watched Friends but I have heard from a BUNCH of people that it is really good so I will give it a shot! So many episodes and so many seasons but I'll get through them when I find the time! Congratulations on getting engaged! I hope you have a great day!
ReplyDeleteHi Bailey, Wow what a fun life. I love your major and everything you believe in! I am rooting for you. Congrats on grad school and the engagement. I am also planning a wedding, taking 18 hours and working 30 hours. Life is busy. Good luck with wedding planning, I have enjoyed it but sometimes it is overwhelming. I hope you have a great semester.
ReplyDeleteHey Bailey! You wrote a really interesting introduction. Congratulations on the engagement you guys look happy as can be. Grad school will be challenging but I'm sure your up to the task. RVing is super fun and I'm jealous of all the trips you guys will be going on. One suggestion I have though is to increase your font size because it is kind of hard to read.
ReplyDeleteHi Bailey! I loved getting to read your introduction. It is crazy to me that we are on Week 12, and I am still meeting new people. Congratulations on your engagement! I hope that you have had time outside of school to enjoy this special time in your life and plan the wedding of your dreams! I hope that your graduate school acceptance has gone smoothly!
ReplyDeleteHey Bailey! First of all, I want to congratulate you on your engagement! It must be so exciting! That is so cool that you want to going law enforcement. I just recently learned that Political Science isn't just about Politics. I always thought that it was only about politics for some reason. It must be so much fun to be able to travel with your family in an RV. I hope that you have great rest of the semester and enjoy your summer!
ReplyDeleteHey Bailey, nice to meet you and congratulations on your engagement. I bet that it is getting stressful with the wedding approaching and you finishing up undergrad. It seems like we have some things in common, I love listening to christian and country music. Also, I love to travel though I have never traveled around in an RV. I hope you have a great last couple weeks of undergrad and have the wedding of your dreams.
ReplyDeleteHi Bailey,
ReplyDeleteI changed majors twice, and each time I was glad that I did. I'd much rather take a little extra time and know that I'm confident with my path. Social work sounds very challenging, but seems like an enormously rewarding career. Good for you! And I'm quite jealous about the RV, it's been years since I got to go camping. Maybe after graduation a trip is in order :)
Nice to meet you!
Hi Bailey great introduction! It seems like you have a good idea with what you are doing with the rest of your life and that's awesome. Social work is a great profession and doing what you love everyday makes it a lot easier. The RV sounds like so much fun. It's really cool that you and your family have gotten to take so many trips together. Good luck with graduation and congratulations on the engagement.
ReplyDeleteHello Bailey! The RV sounds pretty cool. It's pretty convenient to be able to take long road trips without (theoretically) leaving your house. Where in Texas did you go for New Years? I love going to Thunder games. I went to the Thunder vs. Rockets in OKC a several weeks ago with my girlfriend. She's a Rockets fan so she was able to leave the arena with the win (eye roll).
ReplyDeleteHey Bailey,
ReplyDeleteYour career path sounds very impactful and one that you have a passion for! That’s awesome that your family has an RV to take trips in! I can’t imagine being in that close of space over an extended period of time with anyone except my family. Good luck on the rest of the semester and I hope the wedding planning isn’t too stressful!
Hey Bailey! It is great to get the chance to meet you! Congratulations on your upcoming graduation and marriage. This seems like such an exciting time in your life. You seem so happy, despite being really busy. How do you manage to find balance with everything that is going on? You seem to be so driven. Good luck with the rest of this semester!
ReplyDeleteHey there, Bailey! How are you and nice to meet you! I really like your introduction it just looks better than mine. Congratulations for your marriage and graduation. I am going to graduate to but not this semester, next semester so I am exited to. I been to camping couple times but not in a RV so I would like to sit in RV one time.
ReplyDeleteHi there, Bailey! Nice to meet you! What an exciting time this is for you! Congratulations on graduating in a couple of weeks (WAHOO) and on your marriage. If you are anything like me, these next 2 weeks are going to be the longest, most stressful, and least motivating weeks ever! All I want to do is soak up time with my friends, but finals are calling! Best of luck to you as you finish up your semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Bailey! Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials and graduating! I hope you get into the grad school of your choice. It's so great that you get to spend so much time with your family. My family lives in Bentonville, Arkansas now, but my dad spends most of the year as a firefighter in Antarctica. He comes back in June or July (whenever there's a day with good enough weather), and I'm looking forward to spending time with him and the rest of my family before he heads back to the ice.
ReplyDeleteWow Bailey that’s so cool, it seems like your life is at a beautiful crossroads and you’re setting out on a brand new adventure. :) I wish you lots of love and luck in that!
ReplyDeleteI’m so jelly about your RV! That sounds like such a cool way to explore the country.
