Feedback Strategies

Be a Mirror and Criticizing Praise

I believe that the act of giving feedback and the manner that we do it in is a very important quality to for people to have. This concept can seriously affect people and can either seriously help or hurt their confidence. In this class especially, I believe that it is essential for us to be kind and thoughtful with our feedback because we are in such a public sphere. Each of these articles on criticism gave great insight. Most of all, I like how Be a Mirror talked about taking yourself out of the comment by avoiding using "I liked" or "I think" when giving feedback to a peer. In Criticizing Praise, I learned that praise is a tricky thing and eventually it can be seen as conditional and people may think that they have to do things a certain way to earn love and affection rather than just feeling loved and adored all of the time.

These are all important things to remember and I believe that I will be able to utilize them well in this course.

  1. Hi Bailey!

I could not agree with you more about the article "Be a Mirror!" The article was one that I actually shared on Facebook because I honestly believe that we need to focus on critiquing what a person has written and providing helpful feedback on that instead of on what is not there. You know the saying "great minds think alike," I could not have said it better myself.
