Week 7 Storytelling: An Adventure for Friends

Find the updated story here on my website.

Author's Note: This story was inspired by The House of Fire: Found at PDE Mahabharata. The original story is about a group called the Pandavas who are the victim of an evil prince's plot. His plan is to burn them alive. They become wise to his schemes and have replacements come in so that after the fire, they find the bodies of people they think are the Pandavas, but in reality, they have escaped.

An Adventure for Friends
On a warm Friday night in New York City the  group of friends along with a few more new people is spending the evening eating and talking with one another in the apartment with the windows open. They do this quite often, but the warm air combined with the fresh scents of Spring make it all the more enjoyable.

Although the friends were having a peaceful night thus far, the day had been much more strange. The apartment that a few of the friends live in is by far the nicest in the building and people are always trying to find a way to kick the girls out and keep the apartment for themselves. Because the apartment is in New York City it is under rent control and therefore,    there are quite a few rules about who can live there and such. Thus far, there have been no issues, but recently another group of friends moved into two of the apartments on the third floor. They learned that the three girls who live in the nice apartment are in violation of the rent control law and they are determined to have the large, beautiful apartment with a view of the Village to themselves.

The other group spent weeks leading up  to this afternoon planning and scheming a way to get the apartment. They even tried to get the building superintendent on board, but he likes the original group of friends so much that he went to warn them about what was going on.  When the group found out that they were being schemed against, they knew that they had to come up with a great plan to keep their beloved apartment.

The original group began by asking the superintendent to play along and appease the other group. They decided that they were going to have to fake move out. The original group rounded up a few of their other friends which included their new friend Julia. They decided that they would fake move out and have their new friends move in. They would even have the superintendent tell the other group that the apartment went on the market and was rented before he could even come and tell them that it  was available.

They began the false move. They packed up quite a few empty boxes and took them downstairs to a moving truck. They then had that truck circle the block and had their decoys bring up those same empty boxes so it looked like new renters were moving in. The plan went off without a hitch, but they had to make the other group believe it was real. In order to do this, the decoys  will stay at the apartment for a week and the original group will come to visit the boys’ apartment across the hall quite often. They do this in hopes that they will trick the new group into thinking that they really have moved away.

The friends continue to sit and enjoy the warm evening in the large, beautiful apartment.

  1. Hey Bailey, it took me a little bit and then seeing the picture of Monica’s couch to realize the story had some elements of Friends, the tv show, in it. I like how you changed the story to fit to a more modern theme. It would be helpful if you mentioned where you got your inspiration from in the author’s notes. Good story, I cannot wait to come back and read more!

  2. Having your author's notes at the beginning of the post is an aspect I have come to really find useful in people's story telling. Knowing the background info from the beginning is very helpful to comprehending the new story. I think added more specific characters to your story would make it feel more deep. This was a fun story though.
