Week 6 Story
Author's Note: The story that I have retold was called Kunti and Her Son from a Public Domain site. The story that I have written was based off of this. I used some hints of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to retell the story as well.
Harry Potter: Retold
During the reign of the “He
Who Must Not Be Named” (Voldemort), no one ever
felt safe. Mothers feared for their children’s’
lives along with their own. There was death everywhere. Voldemort and his
followers killed families regularly and spared no one. Voldemort and his
followers claimed that the only witches and wizards that should be allowed in
the wizarding world were purebloods. There was a group of witches and wizards
who had devoted their lives to fighting “He
Who Must Not Be Named”, they called themselves the Order of
the Phoenix. They were very different from Voldemort and his “Death Eaters” and they had more civil beliefs.
They believed that anyone could be a witch or a wizard, pureblood, half-blood,
as long as you were chosen to be a witch or wizard, it did not matter what your
blood percentages were to them. This group laid everything on the line to
protect people from Voldemort and the Death Eaters although Voldemort had vowed
to kill every last one of them. This was a bit scary for many of the members of
the Order of the Phoenix because they had small infant children. Many of the
families were forced to go into hiding altogether because of the threat that
was posed to these children. One couple in particular were James and Lily
Potter along with their infant son, Harry. James was a full-blood wizard and
Lily was a half-blood witch. This made their son Harry a half-blood. They knew
they were in danger for their heritage along with the fact that they had been
fighting against Voldemort’s forces for months. They decided to
go into hiding. They found a safe house in Godric’s
Hollow, a small community that many other wizarding families lived in. They
lived there for quite some time in hiding, but James and Lily knew that they
could not stay hidden forever. Not many people knew where they were hiding, but
a select few knew just because they had helped with the move. One of these
people was Peter Pettigrew, who was a long-time friend of Lily and James. Peter
had been cornered by Voldemort himself and he gave up Lily and James’ location. He had betrayed them. Once Voldemort knew that Lily,
James, and baby Harry were hiding in Godric’s
Hollow, he went there at once. He broke through all of the enchantments that
Lily and James had placed on their home in hopes that they would aid them if
Voldemort came looking. Lily and James heard Voldemort enter their gate and
they knew that the time to fight to protect both their son and themselves had
come. They hid Harry as best they could and drew their wands. They were ready
when Voldemort blasted the door open. They dueled him for what felt like hours,
but in the end it was Lily and James who won the battle. Voldemort had been
beaten so badly in this duel that he could not stand or even remember his own
name. Voldemort had been defeated at last and the Potter family along with so
many others would remain intact.
Hey Bailey! One thing I might suggest with this story is spreading the words out. I think that the story being a giant paragraph slightly takes away from the reader's flowing with the events. Also just an idea of enlarging the picture and maybe putting it at the beginning. In terms of the story though it is very creative and I like how you made this your own version. Good work!
ReplyDeleteHey there Baylie! Nice story you got there mix of Harry Potter and Mahabharata, now that something new. I like the part where James and Lily couldn’t fight against Voldemort and go into hiding but at the end they do defeat Voldemort with their own strength didn’t borrow anyone else power. Oh yea like Gavin Martindale said you have to break this story in two to three paragraph it would look good.
ReplyDeleteBailey, I liked the Harry Potter spin you gave this story, it was a really creative way of presenting it! I liked the happy ending to the story, although most people know James and Lily's end isn't as happy as this, this ending was a nice change to the original, keeping true to your original source material. Great read!
ReplyDeleteHi Bailey! I liked your retelling of the Harry Potter origin story, though I bet he won't be the most famous Potter anymore! It was neat how you managed to take pieces of both stories and combine them. Also, I think we can all use a nice happy ending every once in a while; Voldemort certainly deserved what came for him.
