Reading Notes: The Sandy Road
Reading Notes for The Sandy Road by Ellen C. Babbitt
-There is a merchant. He and his team travel by night on the desert sand because it is too hot during the day.
-One man knows the stars and he is the driver
-They stopped at the break of day to eat and lay down to rest
-They traveled this way for many days
-One man suggested they throw out their water and food since they were approaching the city
-That night, the driver fell asleep and the oxen turned back. They ended up in the same place.
-They had no food or water
-The merchant went in search of water for his men
-He came upon a tuft of grass and began digging
-There they found a rock that they knew had water beneath it
-They struck the rock and found a well of water
-They drank and bathed in the water and then headed to the city to sell their goods
-They then returned home
